I have an i5 2400 locked at 3.1ghz (I believe it's locked).

I can currently play SMG at a stable 60fps most of the time, but occasionally the frame rate dips to the 50's. I'm not GPU limited and I'm certain it's a CPU issue.

Are there any CPU's on the market right now that can lock 60fps on SMG (it would be nice on F-zero as well)? I'd appreciate any responses.

i5 4670k stock speed 3.4GHz is almost as fast as i5 3570k @ 4.2GHz
Dolphin Benchmark
If you have Z77 , Z68 or P67 mobo and aftermarket cooler atm , you can upgrade your CPU with i5 3570k or i5 2500k and overclock it @ 4.4GHz
If you have H61 , H67 , B75 , H77 ...... , you should buy new Z87 mobo and pair it with i5 4670k
I recommend MSI Z87 G45 gaming + i5 4670k since Dolphin get more demanding over time

Thanks for the response. I've got an aftermarket cooler because I thought I'd be able to overclock then afterwards I realized I couldn't. I'll look into the options you mentioned, appreciate the help.
