What are safe memory locations for custom code?

Question 
It's pretty useful to have the ability to insert more instructions into function than it originally had by branching into your own code in some unused memory region, especially while developing new codes. Sadly, I'm not sure what memory locations are "safe", so asking about it. My blind guess was 80f00000, but it actually appears to be overwritten under some conditions.

I'm primarily interested in answer for Wii games, but answer for GC would also be neat to have.
