According to some of the guys on the IRC channel, Dolphin used to have a Wayland backend many years ago, but was tossed away because the code's author didn't agree with the GPL2+ licensing changes.
Are there any eventual plans to bring back Wayland support? With the Qt5 backend in place, this task should be much easier than before. It would probably require some refactoring and abstracting of the current Qt code works on all relevant platforms.
I'd like to help, but C++ seems a bit daunting for me at the moment, and I have a few barriers in my life that prevent me from contributing as I would desire.
