Want to run as many games as possible at full speed, will I need to OC my APU?

Not because of hyperthreading, it's because i3 has a higher DRAM frequency support and a higher L3 cache, supporting also some instruction sets not available in G3258 (like AVX and AES-NI). My G3258 can use high DRAM frequencies just fine. Plus Modern games don't take advantage of AVX or AES-NI.

at the moment hyperthreading helps a lot with pc gaming performance on a dual core cpus but not so much on quad core as most pc games can use 4 threads.

i3 is better for pc games than pentium because at stock speed it can run pc games better than G3258 when overclocked while creating less heat and drawing less power.

If you dont mind changing motherboards, i would go for an intel i5 4590k.
