"Probably" a gpu driver bug. If you're on the latest 5.0-dev version, and the same issue doesn't happen on other platforms, it's probably the driver. Also, the drivers are (mostly) independent of android version - so "oreo" isn't as useful as saying if it's the mali or qcomm redmi note revision, and the vendor's driver version.
Generally, the drivers on most android devices are so terrible it's probably a good bet any issue you see is the result of a driver bug - especially on vulkan. It the Snapdragon 625 version, on los14.1 and aosp based nougat rom was fine with opengl and vulkan (but too much black texture) but on los15.1 and few aosp based oreo rom both opengl and vulkan are buggy, maybe its driver problem that came with oreo update 01-18-2018, 07:09 PM
I think the question should be: Vulkan buggy on Android.... That way we only have to reply "Yes"
Check my profile for up to date specs.

I wonder if it's possible to make a magisk module that contains updated adreno drivers or some that are tweaked for better performance.

Sure - if you have the ability and knowledge to modify the current shipping binary drivers to fix all their issues and improve performance, go ahead. But I would suggest that you could leverage that knowledge to a more advantageous goal in the long term, and do the same for the current open-source driver efforts for the same devices instead.... 01-23-2018, 06:10 AM

What open-source driver efforts are you referring to? I'm not exactly sure what you mean there. 01-23-2018, 06:25 AM

And if there was an "easy" magic go faster button available, I would expect the driver devs to have already switched it on. Same with any "enable_driver_bugs = true;" switched. So any performance "enhancements", bug fixes, or similar will likely require significant knowledge of the driver and hardware, and in depth changes to the current codebase. Both of which would be magnitudes harder for someone without source access to the current closed driver. 01-27-2018, 11:57 PM
What is your driver version? There is at least one report showing old and featureless driver #2245 http://vulkan.gpuinfo.org/compare.php?co...2245%5D=on
