OK, now you've got to be doing the non-widescreen stretching just to annoy me. Tongue

BTW, I forgot to mention that YouTube did roll out 1440p and 2160p VP9 formats.

That's good news. About time they setup up a bit. Now we need higher bitrate and 60FPS support.

I've uploaded non-stretched 1080p 60FPS footage here for everyones viewing pleasure.
Make sure to watch in 60FPS if possible and excuse my crappy gameplay. The movement feels so sensitive.

Gasp! You have the ability to record F-Zero GX in full-on real-time? Do want... I tried to do a non-real-time recording and discovered that the game engine drops to 30fps when not running at full speed. >_<

And FYI, you actually can get 60fps on YouTube by kind of cheating:

And for reference, I have absolutely no idea how he got his audio quality to sound good because normally it sounds crappy when you do that process. I'm considering asking the HydrogenAudio gurus for some insight hopefully...

Oh god, no more ugly workarounds \õ/

(I recently saw a video of 60FPS gameplay footage that were edited and uploaded with half-speed, so, 50% speed at 30 FPS, then the uploader stated in comments that "you need to "play" it at 2x speed through HTML5 player to get normal speed at 60 FPS". That thing somewhat worked but the audio was left buggy like a hell as side effect)

HOLY GRAIL WAR, BATMAN SABER!

Sorry, I'm really excited about 60fps support. I blame it on F-Zero X back in 1999. Tongue

I wonder if this is related to VP9 becoming their standard, meaning saved bandwidth? Alternatively I wonder if it's related to HTML5 playblack - like, is flash player limited to 30fps video playback or somethiing?

Another thing is that it may be because VP9 allows YouTube a clean break from the h.264 playback-ecosystem. In other words, of all the bajillion devices with h.264 hardware playback, how many of them can actually decode 60fps h.264 in hardware?

EDIT 2: Ahh, I see how they're doing it. The DASH formats are 60fps while the non-DASH formats are 30fps.

However... my CPU lacks SSSE3 which makes it impossible to do 60fps VP9 at 720p. D: WHY?!

It's because the audio when sped up does pitch correction, so you need to also apply pitch correction so as to cancel out the pitch correction in playback. This mean have to do some crazy mad voodoo for it to sound good. For example, this video:

For reference I have no idea how that was done, but it sounds great for being pitch-corrected twice.

One weird... effect of the HTML5 player for me is the inability to play in 1080p. In fact, I can only choose between 360 and 720p. Any idea why? I'm almost about to switch back to the default flash player due to this...

(60 FPS definitely looks amazing though. Now to wait until 120 FPS... =P)
