But no, keeping them sealed isn't it. As for keeping them clean, I never have problems with dirtiness, even with nearly 20 year old PC CDs.
Like I said, I don't really know myself why it psychologically feels better. The closest thing I can think of is that I've become extremely sensitive to vender and hardware lock-in - I want to actually own a copy of the game, not just own a license to play the game.
