Version number when compiling from source

I am trying to compile version 5.0-11991 for Linux from this link

Everything compiles fine and runs fine, but the version number in the about window just shows 5.0 and Revision: 5.0 (no further info)

Is there a way to fix this so I can netplay with someone who has 5.0-11991?

In order for the version number to be included in the binary, you need to download the source code using git clone and then build from the git repository it creates.
