Can anyone tell me how to collect star bits in Mario with the mouse?

I think I had this working in a Windows 7 machine that was newer. But now Im trying it on an old dell laptop and its not working. As you may know, I have to get this working to play Mario Galaxy or I cant use the Observatory. And it would just be useful in general for Galaxy 2 and who knows what other games... Oh and I cant shoot stars at things.

I just upgraded from XP to Windows 8.0. I have a Nvidia GEForce Go 7900 GS. I will note that there is no driver for this Gfx card. I installed the Windows 7 Gfx driver instead and it seems to work... better. Better than no driver, that is. 2Gb ram. Intel Centrino Duo. Dell Inspiron E1705.

Other issues Ive noticed:
New Super Mario Brothers - mini game cannons and tilting bridges dont stay tilted
Zelda - When aiming the Eagle he aims like a drunken wombat. about 10 degrees to the northwest of my pointer
Mario Galaxy 2 - Planets in the intro, Master Lumas, Marios hat when he finds Master Lumas, and some shrubbery are all textured in black! They shine and glisten in the sun, but are not textured properly....

I dont know if these are related issues. I kinda feel like its my graphics card since I had no problems on that other Windows 7 pc.

Wow, it's amazing you managed to run Dolphin with that at all.

Anyways, to collect Star Bits, you have uncheck the "Skip EFB Access from CPU" checkbox in Graphics settings - But I heard old GPUs don't support it anyways, so if that doesn't work, there's nothing you can do.

Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
More or less, your PC is complete garbage and you should get a new one

You can build a relatively low cost desktop that will play Dolphin very well for about $400~$500
