Using netplay direct connection

I port forwarded and have sent my IP to a few different people and it always says failed to connect on their end. What else do I need to do for it to work properly?

You would be surprised at the number of people that come here asking for help who haven't read the guides.

Have you tried any of the most recent dev builds to see if the problem still persists?
If you're trying to connect to people on smash-ladder, I think they're trying to get everyone to go to build 4.0-5886 (or somewhere around there)
