Using GCI causes States to break Saves

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if this needs a bug report. When I first setup dolphin on my phone I stuck with the default option of GCI files. It seemed like they provided you with more flexibility by letting you store individual game saves separately. I ran into an issue where every time I used a save state, Gauntlet Dark Legacy (one of the few games that will play on my phone) will then fail to save as it tells me that the memory card in Slot 1 is not the card originally used. I thought that this just meant I could not use Save States but when I tried to use a virtual Memory Card instead of GCI files it worked fine. To be clear, my process is...
  • Load game from in-game save
  • Save state
  • Load state
  • Save game via in-game save

So I am not doing anything like creating multiple save states or saving over my in-game save without updating the save state. I am just trying to use the save state when I cannot get to an in-game save point. Is this a known issue with GCI files, or should I log a bug report?

There's a bug report of this on the tracker already. I'm not really sure what's going wrong with the memory card handling.

Ah, alright. I found a bug that states would cause this issue with GCI or Memory Card selected but I did not see one that was only when using GCI files.

I saw a different emulator dev say that not to could rely on Save States cuzz it's unreliable in relation to In Game Saves.
Hope this helps.
Also, it broke my Memory Card when I tried to make a save_state in Rayman 3, which is fun and runs great on Shield TV.
