Hey there,

since Im often in my girlfriends appartement I installed Dolphin on my laptop too.
While I play the same games, i have different savegames... sigh

Is it possible to run Dolphin (properly) on usb-stick? Or at least to put the savegame on the stick and let dolphin access to it from both machines?
Im not very technical, so sorry if thats a dumb question.

PS: How is it with Dolphin ingame saves? Does that work too?

Thank you!

Greetings
Zeel

It's fine to copy the Dolphin install directory to a USB stick (though you probably won't have any use of uninst.exe, so delete that if you want to), or you can download one of the development builds of Dolphin (they have you extract Dolphin to wherever you want instead of using an installer).

You can make Dolphin save its data next to Dolphin.exe (instead of in Documents as it does by default) by creating a file named portable.txt in the same folder as Dolphin.exe. You might also want to adjust some of the paths in Config > Paths, and the GameCube memory card paths in Config > GameCube, so that they point to the USB stick (if they don't end up being right by default).

And yes, you can get it to work with both ingame saves and with savestates.

Ah perfect. Thank you Smile
I saved my gamecube saves as "CGI". Where do I find that to copy it to the stick?

By default, they're stored in C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\GC

No, Dolphin ignores the content of portable.txt.

The config should automatically get saved to the USB stick as long as you have a portable.txt file. For saves, you might need to adjust the paths in Config > Paths.
