If your OS is up to date this won't help. Win8/8.1 come ready right out of the box and vista/7 have both been updated to schedule the threads on alternating cores first so that resources aren't shared unless necessary.

Clock rate would impact gpu throughput and latency but not memory transfer latency. If the increased clockrate is helping (which it does) then one of those two has to be responsible for it. Latency being the more likely.
