Here recently I've been using Netplay to play Kirby Air Ride City Trial with a couple of friends while we talk over Skype, and it's loads of fun. One issue we have, though, is that one person in our group has a slower system than the rest, so when the game area is being rendered 3 times over, it lags for all of us. He can run the game fine with just him playing. I'd like for each of us to have our entire screen to use for our viewpoint, which can be achieved by using the BBA. I've done a LAN connection with Kirby Air Ride on my own home network between 2 computers, but I'd like to know if it is possible to to this over the internet. I've looked on Google for an answer, and can't really find anything definitive so I thought I'd ask here.

The GC LAN games generally use multicasting which isn't designed to work over the internet. You'd probably need to set up a VPN for everyone to connect to, to make it look like they're all on the same LAN.

It may be old, but I followed these instructions.

Though, I don't have anyone to test this on... That, and I like to use Evolve for my server hosting/LAN setups.

I know how to set up the BBA to work over LAN, what I want to know is how to set it up to work over the internet, or if it is even possible to do so. Like tueidj said, a VPN would theoretically work to make the BBA think everyone is on the same network. Whenever I get the time tonight, I'm going to try using a simple Windows VPN and see if that works.

Did you remember to bridge the TAP device with the connection you use to get onto the internet?

Also, if you figure something out, can I join? I haven't played KAR with someone in FOREVER.

You're missing the point. The game only supports LAN play, not internet. Giving it access to the internet is not going to change that.

Wait what?

So you're telling me that was all just if I wanted to use it for LAN, and even with Evolve backing me up it isn't going to change anything?

D'oh.

Alright, I've been messing with it, so here's a little update on my progress. I had my friend connect to my computer via a Windows VPN connection, so that part was working. Both my friend and I installed OpenVPN along with the TAP network device. Once he was connected, I tried to bridge my LAN connection with the TAP adapter. Apparently doing this boots any VPN clients off of your connection, so that wont work. I'm thinking that instead of using a Windows VPN, I should use some other service to host a VPN on my system. I would use OpenVPN for this, but I cannot seem to find any guides on how to host a VPN with OpenVPN on Windows. I found countless Linux guides, but nothing for Windows. If somebody could point me in the right direction for hosting a VPN on Windows, I'd appreciate that.

This may look like advertising, and I'll be honest when I say I don't know jack about networking, but Evolve mentions having a Virtual Private Network function.

I'm monitoring this thread. You haven't declined my offer to play with you, and I'm dying to play some KAR without Split Screen, let alone without setting all my friends to Level 9!

Even if you simulate a LAN environment with a VPN, how much latency does KAR allow? A true LAN would have potentially < 1 ms latency, but your Internet connection won't be anywhere close to that good. If KAR requires perfect synchronisation over the network, then it'll never work properly over the Internet. Netplay might be more reliable in that case, since it's designed with higher latency in mind.
