Hi all, i'm new here but i'm an old fan of that great piece of software that is Dolphin. I've tried to look around for other threads on this matter and did not find one. I have no wiimote or other original controllers for Wii/Gamecube at the moment and i've been using the keyboard to play on Dolphin. Since i've got an iPad i've tried to look around if there is any way to use it as a remote for Dolphin; i've found a few apps which emulates a keyboard on iPad and send the signal to a Mac or PC, you just have to install the app on ipad and a small server side app on your Mac / PC. The nicest app i found is this one: http://www.customkeysapp.com (it's cheap but not free, it costed €0,79 on AppStore), it's nice because it allows to completely define a keyboard layout with graphics you like and buttons placed where you like as big or little as you like; so i got some fun designing a simple wiimote interface you can see here:

And here is a picture of how it looks on my ipad:

Now, it looked all ok, i assigned all the keys and tried it in Text (Mac notepad) and Openoffice, it worked all fine. Then i tried it on Dolphin and got a bad surprise, setting keys in Dolphin is working fine, if i press, let's say, the "1" key on the keyboard Dolphin recognizes it, highlights the key in the buttons panel under wiimote configuration and a beep is played. If i press one of the keys on the iPad i get the sound, a beep is played but no key is highlighed. I tried playing but got no success, keys from keyboard works fine, keys from iPad does not work, while on every other application it works fine. Tried many different values in wiimote configuration panel but got no success. It would be nice to be able to use it to play, i'd like to create a GCPad template too, maybe there's just something wrong i did or some configuration trick. If you like to try the app on your iPad you can find this template under the name "M!! Remote for Dolphin Emulator", the server side application is available for Windows too.
Any hint or suggestion is highly appreciated, thanks!

Yep, it would be cool if only i could find a way to make it work, that app works great with everything but with Dolphin, maybe it has to do with the way Dolphin catches keypresses, i don't know.

It could be, but i'd like trying. You are quite used to such controls if you play a lot on iPad, there are many great games, like Rage (iD Software) for example which works with similar controls. That's just the first try but i've placed the keys so that every important key is reachable with thumbs, you grab the ipad and you know where the keys are, there's no need to look at it while playing, somewhat like a joypad once you are used to it, at least that's the intention Smile

Ha ha you remind me of a former co-worker that I used to work with, he loved his Mac, iPad and iPhone and he sure loved apps.

That's well off topic but yes, i have to say i'm quite happy with Apple products too, i've been a pc user since Dos 5 was around and the coolest thing you may find online was a BBS, and i'm glad i've left the domain of Windows a few years ago, after years spent assembling pcs for me and as a work. Mac OS and iOS are not perfect, as nothing is, but everything is simpler, many things are smarter, some things are faster, pains in the asses are reduced by 90% compared to old assembled pcs with windows xp i used to have, that's really been worth it... just my two cents, i'm sure there still are people very happy with their PC, i've always thought that the old PC-MAC war between users was quite ridicolous. Needs varies a lot, i just think many things are worth a try, choosing one without really knowing what the others has to offer is just a blind choice.

As this question is four years old, has anyone found a solution for this? Having your iPhone/iPad as an additional controller would be awesome!
