USB Wii sensor bar? Which one?

Good Job Myself I didn't have any spare remote controller , however I do have everything else... I bet it will take 3 weeks for the LEDs to arrive I'll use some candles in the meantime

BTW...Plz pm with the ebay seller you bought your 'working' knockoff wiimote.

i did not solder then just used wire and tape i use 4 leds due to 5v usb power as i heard if you use 2 then you need resister well works for me

used a straw to hold the wires and more tape looks a bit untidy bit works a treat

It gets expensive, because in no time you'll have paid much more in batteries than the bar itself cost. And a sensor bar is not worth an AAA charger and 4 batterypacks.

USB sensor bars or self-made improvisations like Apostacius's are a much more smart and viable option for the long run.

I have used only 1 battery connect to USB so it autocharged,not drain any even non-chargeable battery(the truth is i've used it for a month) so I win(for environment),the USB homemade use 4-LED each side for 5V ,I merely add 1.5V to USB so i could use my wii sensorbar(Wire) with 5 LED eachside

I guess it all depends on the IR LEDs you are using and their characteristics. I found this LED calculator to be very useful.

A wireless sensor bar(holding 4 batteries -> 4.8V resp. 6V) costs you incl. free shipping only 4-5 dollars, just hook up an old usb cable(5V) to it and your done. I still think thats is the most reliable way to obtain an good looking usb sensorbar. First of all it's as good as almost no work and very cheap, plus you get a half decent!! solid plastic case containing your IR-Leds and you dont need to solder any thing. Workload: just a couple of minutes for cutting the usb cable, cutting a hole into the plastic and wrapping the current leading wires around the metal connectors of the battery tray, et voila your good to go.
And if still needed, your still able to just use batteries plus having a solution which is mobile and doesn't fall apart as soon you touch it (knot the usb cable inside the case to make it pull-resistent:>).

Shez good points. I totally agree with you.

However I need about 15ft of solid coverage area, and after reading users responses about $5 wireless sensors, from some LEDs not working to a poor coverage; I've decided to build one myself. Also by building your own, you can built something specifically for your needs (laptop or 120" screen).

The part that interest me is: Easy to operate for just enclosing 4 pieces of AA Ni-MH batteries into it or using a power adaptor with an output of 5V - DC or an USB data cable will also work



It is essential for me to be USB. I do not know and i do not want cut stuff play with wires etc.

I would never pay as much money just for a stupid sensor bar... $11.99 not to mention plus additional shipping costs of $10-12..
You can have a sensor bar for just $4.73 incl. free shipping... and mod it within 5 minutes to get powered via usb - seriously( I know I'm repeating myself now) it's no work at all, I would totally understand it if it's complicated by all means but it isn't.
You just simple cut the usb cable and connect two wires (out of 4) w/o soldering with the metal connectors of the battery tray, that's it, even my lil' sister could do that.
For the saved money you could already! buy a 3rd party wiimote + nunchuk at the same shop.

PS i just tested the range of the sensor bar, it easily handles 15ft distance (medium bright room, plus the sensor bar was almost directly placed in front of a window).
The bar contains two pairs of 3 IR LEDs and one blue power LED.
