USB Wii sensor bar? Which one?

Ok, getting tired of having to configure buttons for different games and trying to configure it just right so I have considered looking into getting a USB sensor bar. As I understand it is a Wii sensor bar only it plugs into your computer and you can use it with Dolphin rather then plugging into the back of the Wii. I would like some feed back on them.

1. Which make/model USB Wii sensor bar do you recommend?

2. Will all of the USB Wii sensor bars work with the Dolphin or are some recommended better working then others?

3. Is there anything I should considered before I purchase a USB Wii sensor bar?

I recently bought the Nyko wireless bar mainly due to travelling w/ our Wii - did not want to deal with fishing out the sensor bar wire.

Are you referring to a USB Wii sensor bar or the actual sensor bar that plugs into a Wii? I know Nyko makes a wireless sensor bar but it's intended use is plugging it directly into the Wii which will not work on a computer. My intended use for a Wii sensor bar is to plug it into my computer and use it with Dolphin.

Wii sensor bar is only a infra-red, your connection with wii console is only obtain energy. Nyko wireless don't wireless is only a comercial name.

The wii sensor bar isnt a standard usb socket afaik, you need to get urself a wireless sensor bar (as in battery powered, theres no data in these bars its just 2 leds) most half decent games shops stock the nyko one or some other make, doesnt really matter which long as its wireless

Then you can either use rechargable batteries or find urself a usb cable, cut off one end, find the two wires that spark when u touch them (or use a voltmeter - i didnt bother tbh) these are ur +5v and neut power wires, unscrew ur sensor bar, check which polarity switches the unit on and solder the 2 usb power wires onto the battery connection or just coil them round if ur mega lazy.. presto one usb powered sensor bar

Other thing u can do is just build ur own but its only £8 for a prebuilt one then 5 mins of work getting rid of the battery needs

1. You can use any infrared-emitting light source as a sensor bar, even candles (the popular trick on youtube). A sensor bar does not send any kind of data, it just emits IR, from which Wiimote gains distance measurement & movement and sends it to dolphin via bluetooth. You could even set up 2 television remotes 30cm apart each, put a heavy object to press a button, and exploit the infrared light.

2. For under $10, you can buy 4 to 6 infrared LEDs, possibly some 30ohm resistors, and any standard USB cable's guts. Embed into any instrument like small plank of wood and it will work just fine

people are alittle miss informed in that matter, you don't need 4 infrared leds. (i assume you meant 4 instead of 2)
just use large infrared leds instead of tiny ones.

I guess peeps get confused, becuase there is like 1000s DIY desings on the web. You can find designs from 2 LEDs to 18 LEDs. Also the original Wii bar contains 10 LEDs (maybe not a high output ones), Nyko's I belive has 6 ( but I could be wrong). Myself I did order 50 high output LEDs from fleabay for $4 shipped. I'm planning to built 2 seperate boxes with 6 LEDs in each, this way it will be easier to move to boxes apart on my 110" screen's frame.

If I was going with a comercial USB wii bar, I would probably moded it to use an external power adaptor. Many peeps complain about fast battery drainage :-)

i made my own with
4 LEDs from 2 old remotes cut leds from the remotes
old usb mouse (glad i saved it thought it might come in handy)
tape
and old wires

i did not solder then just used wire and tape i use 4 leds due to 5v usb power as i heard if you use 2 then you need resister well works for me

used a straw to hold the wires and more tape looks a bit untidy bit works a treat
