Back to upgrading! I've decided to go the cpu route this time round after checking some comparison benchmarks. I've decided to go with the i5 4690k for it's far superior single and dual core performance(Compared to my 6300 anyway) , which should not only help me with dolphin, but also for desmume and maybe even 3ds emulation when the time comes. ^.^

Yeah, I saw the k one was only better in overclocking, so im not interested, though I will admit, if I were an over clocker, the k would be a no brainer since its only like 10$ more on newegg.

Get the K version with a Z97 motherboard, as there are a handful of games where it can come in handy (Zelda TP, the Last Story, possibly Metroid)

Woo, in which way? :3

If it makes the rain on visor slowdown go away, i'll make it a must buy! Big Grin

Actually there are reports that in the latest dev the rain slowdown is minimized, plus you can always use direct 3d that doesn't have it.

Oh good tip! I usually only revert to direct 3d when I wanna see 3d stuff, so I've never had the chance to test that. Smile

Sorry to go on a tangent, but why does it do that anyway?

For the games that need a lot of CPU speed (those games I listed), the faster the CPU, the better the game runs. So if the game isn't running at consistent fullspeed at the stock clock speeds, you can overclock higher than the Turbo of the non-K version to alleviate the CPU bottleneck.

As for the slowdown of the rain, its because the game does some funky code stuff that has been worked on recently in JIT optimizations.

Yeah thats true I suppose, but I already get decent speeds with my 6300, (even at 4x resolution at 1080)
and the processor im upgrading to is about 50% if not more faster at running dual and single core process, so I think stock will be fine. If not, im sure that the speeds will be manageable. Really though, 3x is probably all I need, with AA and AF enabled, maybe with the exception of insane slugs texture pack for TP, where the higher internal resolution helps get rid of some of the grittiness in distant textures.

*Ah, I see. Thanks for the education. ^.^

*Also I do still intend on upgrading my gpu to a 970 (though that will probably still be months away)

The performance you can achieve while increasing IR and using features such as AF & AA (though with good IR multiplier you usually don't need AA) really depends more on your GPU capabilities than on your CPU's.
Like the others, just for future's sake, I'd strongly advise going for the K version of the processor too.
