Upgrading to a nvidia 970.

I was wondering if this upgrade will show a decent improvement with playing dolphin.

I'd say you're being CPU bottlenecked.

Use the 350$ to get a i5 4690k and a Z97 mobo instead.

Changing the GPU will only allow to increase internal resolution, but if you want more speed you will have to upgradthe CPU, preferably to a intel haswell based one

I did some research and a guy said that this is a good way to find out which.

"If reducing graphics settings does not improve framerate then the CPU's bogged.

If lowering settings does improve performance then the GPU's hitting its ceiling."

I did a test on super mario galaxy, since that is one of the few games I can't max out with 4x Ir, 2x aliasing, ect, and I found that with all graphical improvements off, I ran the game at a max of 80fps in the main hub (where rosalina stands), but with 4x int resolution my framerate dropped to about 50. Wouldn't that mean that it's my gpu that needs upgrading, since it's the visual enhancements thats taking a tole on my framerate? o.o

If you want 4x resolution and antialiasing in games like mario galaxy which is gpu intensive then you are a bit gpu bottlenecked. My 560 ti that has similar performance with your card, has a few fps drops in Mario Galaxy even with 3x resolution. Still the difference will be bigger with a better cpu and setting the ir to 3x than what you will get by upgrading your gpu. There are a few games as gpu intensive as Mario Galaxy but every single game is demanding from the cpu. Imo unless you have a higher than full hd monitor more than 3x internal resolution is redundant since 3x is already higher than full hd (4x is about midway to 4k resolution).

Oh if it's only a little, then I will put off on getting a new cpu till later, since I will have to also get a new motherboard and power supply. ^.^

A cpu upgrade will boost performance a lot in every game unless you crank your graphics settings up to absurd levels. A gpu upgrade will provide a small to moderate improvement in some games at very high settings. A cpu upgrade is a much better choice for you. Do what Anti-Ultimate said.

yeah i concur. A CPU upgrade will be best for you. I recommend a i5-3570K or i5-4670K (both for about 200€ each). i7 is NOT worth it. That Nvidia is plenty powerful for probably all games. I see no reason to upgrade it because of Dolphin

Why those models? The current Haswells (read i5-4690K, i7-4790K and Pentium G3258) can handle higher overclocks and thus having better results.

Haswell is 30% faster than Ivy Bridge in Dolphin Benchmark
i3 4130 @ 3.4GHz is on par with i5 3570k @ 4.4GHz . Unlocked multiplier Pentium G3258 is on the same level as i5 4690k and i7 4790k when you overclock
