OK, well I managed to make a modified ISO with the modified data from Project:M, and it boots just fine. I used WiiScrubber 1.4 + PartitionBuilder 1.2. (Extract unencrypted partition 2 with WiiScrubber, replace the corresponding files from Project:M (renaming some things by adding _en at the end), make a partition out of that using PartitionBuilder, and then add that back into the ISO using WiiScrubber.)
The problem is, even if you have the files, you still need the codes. Dolphin can handle Gecko codes, but not fully - it can't handle the necessary amount of codes needed for Project:M. That is handled by Gecko OS using the gameconfig.txt file, and this is not currently supported by Dolphin. So at the moment, we are stuck with the 'no saving' vs 'Snake/Olimar crashes', until either Dolphin supports full Gecko codes (with many more lines of code than just 231) or they figure out what's causing the crashes. 04-18-2012, 11:43 AM
Yeah, I use a modified .iso and I tried replacing snake with his Project M version (and deleted the one in the .raw) and it still crashes. Even without changing the file in the .iso the crash still happened.
And it seems there's no way to actually "add" the whole codeset to brawl. We're stuck alright. 04-18-2012, 01:13 PM

Snake and Pokemon Trainer at the match details screen and Olimar right after character selection. Vanilla Brawl works great, it's a shame that there are bugs with the Brawl Gecko variants. I guess all we can hope for is that they fix the issue causing this in Dolphin. Even without changing the file in the .iso the crash still happened. It doesn't crash for me, you just have to uncheck "Insert SD card". This crash is a general problem with Brawl, which is not specific to using codes or anything; it just happens if you have checked "Insert SD card". For me, with the modified ISO, it loads all the files successfully (so for instance it replaces the character movesets), but we can't apply the codes because of the code number limit. Is there any way Gecko OS can read codes from somewhere else than the SD? Can you inject the codes into the wad file itself? 04-19-2012, 03:58 AM
The save File issue was solved awhile back
You just have to empty User/Wii/Title completely into User/Wii Damn shame there is no way to fix the other issues. Dolphin will also crash randomly when playing Project M which is unfortunate. Looks like we are stuck till a Dev decides to look into it.
Thanks for the info DrROBschiz. I seem to have missed that.
And presheaf, since you have a modified iso, could you try "removing" (un-checking) the SD after Gecko applies the codes and launches the game? Since codes are only loaded once (at start up) you should, theoretically, be able to run the games 100% if you replace all the files in your iso and un-check "insert SD card" after GeckoOS applies the codes. I tried removing the SD and the crash stopped, but the codes remained 100% active. Even the File patch code stayed active since I could simply "insert" the SD back in (this can also be done on the Wii) and the code resumed loading from the SD. Everybody else feel free to try this if you have the time to add all the files. 04-19-2012, 04:01 PM
Yeah, actually, that works. I didn't realise you could uncheck 'Insert SD card' when the game was running, silly me. Thanks.
Still not the most convenient, but I suppose it'll do until someone figures out that 'Insert SD card' crash. DrROBschiz: what are the crashes you're getting? The Snake/Olimar ones are an issue. If the music keeps running but nothing happens, Echoes figured out that was because of bad Gecko Hooktype; if you change that it should fix it. Currently I'm using AXNextFrame and haven't had a single issue with it. I think I had one freeze once using GXDraw/GXFlush, on Mario Circuit. With GC Pad I was getting regular freezes. VBI is the default, and choosing that means that the codes sometimes don't load. 04-20-2012, 02:03 AM
Good to hear. It's nice to see that there's at least a way to get this "100%" working, inconvenient as it may be. Thanks for checking that out!
And yeah, AXNextFrame seems to be the best Hooktype. I haven't had any crash, graphical issues or random slowdown with it (aside from my "it's alright" Athlon II 255 CPU). When I have time, I'll edit the first post with corrections about why these crashes happen and maybe even add a small Brawl ISO editing guide. 04-20-2012, 10:01 PM
I also have a Setup on dolphin to keep frames from dropping from 60 at a consistent rate (Depends on the Stage you play on though)
If any of you are interested. |
