Unusual Performance on Retina Mac Book Pro

Background:
I have a Mac Book Pro with Retina Display 15 inch (2012 mid) top configuration (i7 3820QM 2.7GHz, 16G ram, GT650M, Yosemite 10.10.2 pre release ). But Super Mario Galaxy has only about 30-40 fps at opening title of the game (Dolphin 4.0 dev-5078, 3xIR, 4xAA, 4xAF, rest setting by default). I also have a desktop PC (i7 920@3.3GHz, 6G ram, AMD HD5800, Windows 7 64bit). Same Game with same config runs quite smooth at the same places. Generally speaking, my rMBP is more powerful than the old desktop PC, why Dolphin runs so different?

----------------------------------------------------
Due to my job, I can access various Macs. So I try to do a test that running the same game, same Dolphin, same config on different Macs.
----------------------------------------------------
Software: OS X Yosemite 10.10, Dolphin 4.0 dev-5078, Super Mario Galaxy original dump from my wii disc.

Dolphin Config: OpenGL Backend ( Blush ), 3xIR, 4xAA, 4xAF, rest setting by default

Hardware: rMBP 15 inch(2014 mid)i7 4870HQ 2.5GHz, 16G ram, GT750M
               Mac Book Air 13 inch (2014 early) i5 4260U 1.4GHz, 4G ram, intel HD 5000
               iMac 27 inch (2013 late) i5 4670 3.4GHz, 8G ram, GTX775M
----------------------------------------------------
Result: (at opening title and save selection)
rMBP 15 inch (2014 mid) 40-45 fps .
iMac 27 inch (2013 late) 60 fps
Mac Book Air 13 inch (2014 early) 28-32 fps  (More test with 1xIR = 55-60 FPS)
rMBP 15 inch (2012 mid) 30-40 fps (it's mine~)
----------------------------------------------------
MBA has least power, iMac is most powerful so the result is acceptable.

But as the flagship laptop of MBP, rMBPs can not get the good fps...

Is something wrong with the Retina display?

GPU bottlenecks. You can't expect a GT 650M to be able to run 3xIR/4xAA/4xAF. Bring them back to default of 1, and then increase one by one until you get slowdowns again.
Super Mario Galaxy is one of the few games that's really GPU demanding in Dolphin. Some other lightweight games may be able to use that ridiculous setting on the GT 650M, but just so you know, those settings are the equivalent of like over 5K resolution (someone else did the math somewhere else on these forums.)

Yes, I tried 1xIR/0xAA/1xAF on my rMBP. Result is 30-40fps...

Here's the screenshot.

Do you have power saving settings enabled? You should also play with the laptop plugged and watch for signs of overheating.

Thank you for the reply.
OS X has not too much option about power saving, I make sure that GT650M is running instead of Intel graphics. And all test under laptop plugged, no sign of overheating because fans inside didn't go crazy. Big Grin

I also tried on Mac mini and 13inch non-retina mbp,no luck, same poor performance.

So can I say, most Macs will not get good gaming experience with dolphin because poor graphics (or graphics driver), except high end iMac?
