If tessellation is possible in Dolphin (a feature I've been dreaming of for some time), wouldn't it be possible to mark a texture as belonging to object that is made of other materials and completely replace said object in-game with a more modern effect if so desired?
For example, you have an ini or other text file that tells the emulator that blueTextureFor_Water.png belongs to water. So the tessellation engine replaces the entire object with a physics generated water layer that continues to tessellate based on modifications to the original model. So you can add animated waves, shine, and glimmer to a model that originally didn't have that much detail. Or an animated fire animation could be made transparent in-game and replaced with a particle flame. I'm just wondering if this is feasible, I'm sure the hours to make it happen are unreasonable. But I find it exciting nonetheless. Just dreaming of ways to make Metroid Prime look even more like a modern game. 11-04-2015, 11:10 AM
Here is another example I made. I think I made the specular file a bit too bright, but I did go very subtle with displacement to see how it would look.

I put together a tutorial for how i've been making my textures. This is probably the easiest, no skill required way of doing it. By watching this video, you will learn to make normal maps, specular maps, as well as the newly supported displacement maps.
All you need to get started is crazybump and Tino's encoder program. ^.^ Happy creating! 11-04-2015, 02:27 PM
Okay i just figured out that for some reason with certain games on the newest version that if you enable the texture scaling it can cause your display driver to crash.

Hey tino, I was wondering if we need to report tesselation related bugs?
