Norms being normal maps? Anything specific that's confusing to you?
The blue color channel of an RGBA image(4 channels) represents the bump map, base color of a flat surface is 127([color=#FF1400]R[/color][color=#00FF00]G[/color][color=#0000FF]B[/color] color: 0, 0, [color=#00007F]127[/color]). Pixels above [color=#00007F]127 [/color]raises the surface of the bump map.
The normal map is stored in the green and alpha channels, it can be generated from a bump map, Ishiiruka does it automatically if the channels are empty(no normal map found).
If you think about the bump map only, not bothering about the normal map for now, are you unsure how the bump map itself is created?
