The recommended settings are already applied by the INI files in the system folder. That's why using your own INI files is unofficial. You change the default settings for each game at your own risk.

There are several reasons why you might want to put settings in custom INIs. As an example, Star Fox Adventures requires disabling EFB Copies to Texture Only in order to make some effects look the same as on console, but the default INI doesn't force it on, for performance reasons. 12-09-2016, 08:15 AM
Sure, there are valid reasons to use your own INI, but isn't the settings system manipulated in this slightly hidden way to discourage users from applying bad settings when they don't know what they're doing? Requiring users to make their own INI and type specific commands into the INI to get certain settings makes it a lot less likely that people will mess things up than if there were a GUI with sliders and checkboxes to configure everything on a per-game basis. I was under the impression that there was no GUI for this specifically because overriding the default settings is something you do at your own risk, and the developers don't want to encourage you to do it by making it easier to do.
Oh wow you are right i just noticed there is two ini on properties for each game! (default one with bunch of stuff on it and edit config file that is blank) so even if i make changes in general to dolphin 5.0 this default settings will override automatically them right? but if i put a change on the one thats named "edit config" those will overwrite the default .ini , right?
didnt remember this feature on 3.5 i used to had a dolphin folder client for each of my games with specific different settings with a portable.txt file on each xD pd: who puts those default ini settings for each game? is it dolphin automatically detecting the game and adding them online?
My PC:

Devs put the proper settings from time to time inside the program folder you download with the emulator. They are not downloaded from the internet while you run the emulator so it is another good reason to upgrade and use a clean installation folder (not override the previous dolphin folder with the new one). I have helped a lot with those settings in the past, lately not so much due to work reasons. 12-10-2016, 02:30 AM

Not as far as I know. There has been talk about making a better GUI, but the current implementation of the config system is a big roadblock. Yes (unless you open the configuration window while the game is running, in which case the default settings usually stop applying). Doing that will override the default INI, not overwrite it. The default INI is still there, but Dolphin will read your setting instead of the one in the default INI. 12-15-2016, 02:20 AM
