When I first set up my PC I jumped into Wii emulation, more specifically, Super Mario Galaxy and Skyward Sword. I didn't adjust any settings except for bumping up the internal resolution to 3x. I left whatever settings the INI files loaded. Galaxy ran pretty much flawlessly and so did Skyward Sword for the most part except for a hiccup here and there. I received a Wii U for Christmas and took a couple of weeks off from Dolphin. Last night I went back to play Skyward Sword and it was nearly unplayable with almost constant slowdown. Galaxy was better, but still suffered from slowdown if there was a lot happening on the screen. If I set the game to its native resolution the performance is much better.
I tried updating Dolphin (from 4.0-8057 to 4.0-8579) but had the same result. I updated the AMD drivers for my graphics card and also saw no change. I ran Hardware Monitor to check that both cores were running at the correct speed and weren't overheating. Everything was okay. I also ran Malwarebytes to check for malware that could be slowing things down but the scan showed my system was clean. As far as I know there isn't anything running in the background that would slow the system down. The PC is only for emulation, so there isn't much software installed. Also, GameCube games and PS2 games via PCSX2 work fine.
I don't know if it's Dolphin or my PC, but it's like I somehow suddenly lost that last bit of power I need to make Skyward Sword run. I put fifty hours into the game without an issue, so I'd like to figure out what went wrong.
