Unable to save ingame/Memory Card Issues

I am new to using dolphin and for the life of me I can not figure out how to get saving in-game to work. For reference I am playing FEoR and and tried to save in-game and reload and it started me over with a blank slate. Anyone can help? Please and thank you.
