Sad
Ever since I got to the "Scrubbing Sirena Beach" level, I've been unable to trigger the shine sprite sequence no matter what I do, even though every last piece of goop is gone. I did search for a fix for this, but it was based on very outdated builds. Is there any way for me to be able to finish this level?

I'm using Dolphin 4.0.2 with Direct3D11.

On latest builds it should work fine as long as you haven't edited the INI.

Thanks for the quick response!
By "latest builds" you mean the development builds, or the stable ones? I'm using 4.0.2, and the ini is untouched.

I believe 4.0.2 will work, but I'd use the latest development build. I will test on my end and see if it works. You should as well, in case it's an issue with your hardware.

I checked, latest development build works for it.

Well... That worked. But it finished really quickly, not instantly, but most of the paint went away as soon as I stomped the first barrel. I could finish it with 2:38 minutes remaining, that's just odd. Is this normal vanilla behavior for the game?

Also, whenever I try a development build I get a quick white flash on the screen when starting a game up, and then some stutters while in-game.

Chances are the code handling a feature used in that level is not perfectly accurate. There's some "estimating" going on to figure out an internal counter for the game. It would probably help if you could give some kind of "ratio" between the amount of goop you have to clear in Dolphin to finish the issue vs. the amount of goop required to be cleared on the actual console (but please don't say "roughly 2:1" if it's rather "1.9:1" than "2:1").

neobrain: I just compared it between console and dolphin; it's nearly identical. Dolphin may be a bit more stringent than the console if anything. But, that could just be my imagination.

Maybe he was using a different graphics backend than you did?

It's probably the D3D11 + NVIDIA driver thing of not accurately clearing goop.

By which I mean if your NVIDIA settings are on default, D3D11 doesn't like to play nice with a lot of settings.

Let's go over the history of the problem real quick.

https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Super_Mario_Sunshine&diff=74770&oldid=73593

According to the records and all of our testing, this bug was fixed completely before 4.0.2. But as you can see, it varied a lot. I'll put this stuff into order and clean it up to make it easier to read.

*Before 3.0-439, Scrubbing Serena Beach would auto-complete on all backends.
*After 3.0-439, Scrubbing Serena Beach could not be completed, period.
*3.5-513 let you complete it in D3D11 and OpenGL but D3D9 would autocomplete.
*3.5-1165 let D3D9 complete it normally.
*3.5-1779 made Scrubbing Serena Beach autocomplete on all backends again. Though later pauldachz confirmed that it happened between 3.5-1775 and 3.5-1778.
*3.5-2263 fixed it with a gameini tweak (issue 6580).

All of this happened before 4.0, and it SHOULD work on all backends in 4.0.2. So I have no idea why this problem occurred.
