So, trying to play Tales of Symphonia, Sound stutters, fps unstable but usually over 45. Nothing I cant handle so far, HOWEVER, I get into a fight with 1 enemy (boss) (I transferred over a save from my Macbook backup), the FPS stays at around 45-60, sound stuttering, same as usual, HOWEVER, closer to the end of the fight where Sheena summons Undine, I get this message:
Dolphin.exe has detected a problem and must close.
(btw save states doesn't work, the sound gets 100% messed up)
According to these two threads:
Desktop CPU hierarchy
Minimum specs - video card
Both my CPU (Intel i7 720Q 1.6GHz) and my GPU (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650) should be more than adequate to run most games good, I looked at the wiki article and adjusted my sound settings accordingly (noticed no difference between DSP HLE and LLE nor between xAudio2 and Dsound), so what could be wrong?

No, your CPU is too slow to run most games at a good speed, especially Tales of Symphonia which requires DSPLLE to have correct sound emulation.

The CPU hierarchy thread is very misguiding in its current state.
Your CPU goes up to 2.4GHz on two cores, which should play most games good with HLE. (Good doesn't mean a 100% fullspeed at all times)

Unfortunately your CPU isn't sufficient (as you've noticed) to play Tales of Symphonia at a 100% speed.
To play the game at such speeds, you'll need a CPU comparable to mine (stock clocks are sufficient).

Due to your crappy GPU, you will only be able to play games at x1 Internal Resolution.
Raising the Internal Resolution any higher than that value will drop your performance.

There is a big difference between HLE and LLE for this game.
Playing the game with HLE results in missing sound effects and instruments.
LLE will play them correctly, but you will notice a huge performance drop.
*Note that you need the correct DSP files to use DSP LLE. See my sig for a link to the guide for how to dump your DSP.

You should never, ever rely on savestates alone.
They're very unreliable. Only use them in emergency cases.
Save and load using the ingame saves.

I use DSP LLE, but in aforementioned CPU thread it says i7 Mobile runs extremely fast

Clock speed plays a major factor in determining how powerful a CPU is, in addition to it's microarchitecture. Yours has a good microarchitecture, but your clock is too low for this game. You'll need a Sandy Bridge chip (or better) at around 3.3 GHz to run this game smoothly with LLE.

I dont need to be able to run it at 100% speed, as long as it doesn't hang I NEVER rely on save states either, been burned too many times by that already, I have dumped my DSP and are using LLE, but have not experienced any performance drop between the two. I use Internal resolution x1 since I like things as close to native as possible ^_^
But I still see no reason for the game to hang out of nowhere

EDIT:
I dont know if mine is a Mobile or Mobile Extreme, but it is still listed under "Very Fast" I am not overclocking, but I am turboing and here is what it said about i7 Laptop
NaturalViolence Wrote:When overclocked these cpus can run nearly any game at fullspeed even with LLE audio. Without overclocking most games will still run well with LLE audio.

I dont need to run it smoothly, I just need to be able to run it without it hanging itself :-(

NV has a lot of work to do.

EDIT:
NVM, I figured out who NV referred too, anyways back on topic.

I just gave you additional information which might've answered someones questions.
If the sound stuttering bothers you, you can disable Idle Skipping.

Were you using savestates to load the game, or did you use the ingame loading?
Try to use the stable Dolphin 3.0, which you can find on the main website.
I've never experienced any hanging in my playthrough of the game.

Uhm, It goes to 4.80 GHz on two virtual cores when turboing. 2.40Ghz on one virtual core when turboing...
2 virtual cores = 1 physical core (I think...)

No, I don't use savestates, I only mentioned so I would avoid having a less educated "member" coming and suggesting to savestate regularly through the battle...

I use ingame loading, and I downloaded my Dolphin from your website today, less than 6 hours ago...

I will try to disable idle skipping.
