So,
I played about 20 hrs worth of ZTP for GC on Dolphin. I can no longer take the slowing down which occurs in the desert area (and have tried numerous things to make it work at a reasonable speed). I would like to finish the game on the gamecube, and am trying to use a wii with homebrew to transfer my save to a memory card.

I have used the "export to .gci" function on dolphin 3.0 to obtain the .gci from my .raw virtual gamecube memory card. I used GCMM (GameCube Memory Manager) to put the file onto an empty, non-nintendo made memory card. The resulting file was the proper size (in Blocks), but would not play, had no picture, and displayed for the game title "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" and description "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" when viewed in the wii's data manager screen.

I tried copying a freshly made save file (by the ZTP game) from my memory card to my SD then to my computer, and saw that both Dolphin's resulting file and the file produced by the gamecube game are exactly 32.0 kb. I compared them in a hex editor, and changed the beginning information on the Dolphin file to match the information on the gamecube file. Then I tried to add it back to the memory card. It didn't work. I then tried to add back the gamecube file I freshly produced. It didn't work either. I have tried .gci movers besides GCMM, none of which have worked.

Help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

you could try using this http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Ctr-Gcs-DacoTaco-Edition
i would suggest trying with just adding to the memory card with the gci that you exported from dolphin

if that doesnt work, try creating a full backup of your real memory card, loading it up in the dolphin memcard manager, and add the gci to that, finally restore the backup of the real memory card

Did you try it on the GameCube? If you insert the Memory Card in the GameCube with no disc, do you see the the game's icon and banner?

I tried that software. I get the same result. Thanks for the suggestion.

No, I do not see the game's icon or banner. It's a clear box, with only "iiiiiiiiiiiiiii" as text.

Is there some kind of secret code embedded in some location not available to a standard dump? I'm no gamecube memory expert, but it seems that I must be missing some tiny piece of information required to make the file appear valid to the wii or gc. Any ideas anyone?

That's interesting, because the GC didn't say the Memory Card was corrupt, yet did not not display the correct info. If a checksum had been wrong you would have got an error. Can you post or pm me the Dolphin .raw file or the .gci? I'll try to see what is wrong.

Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with the file, but here it is:

Thanks for taking the time to check it out, I appreciate it Smile.

Interesting new tidbit I discovered - when I put the .gci from dolphin (which results in the information "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" and "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii") on a memory card and then play the game, it deletes my information and creates a new save, but it does not say it's overwriting anything, instead it says there was no save file found.

I have also tried placing the save on a nintendo card (I did this successfully), only to find that I still get a series of "i"s and still have an unusable file.

the gci seems to be fine, the comments address (bytes 3c-3f) is 2400 which is "Zelda: Twilight Princess" (starts at bytes 0x2440 comments address + 0x40 for the gciheader)

after putting the gci on a memorycard can you extract it from the memorycard to a new gci file and either compare the difference or upload it for comparison?

The header information appears to be OK, though it seems a little odd to have 5 identical icon images if there's no animation. When I move it to a physical Memory Card the GameCube accepts it, and so does the Wii, and it looks normal on both.

I haven't got the game yet, so I can't tell whether the game data is OK, but I notice that this is the USA version, and I'm wondering if there is an incompatibility with the region of the ISO or the Dolphin Memory Card raw file. My Cube and Wii are both PAL. When I get the game I'll give it a spin.

sorry I would have put it on a physical memorycard, but wasnt near my wii at the time

based on the above posts, and the fact that the save works in dolphin, that the gci is getting corrupted somewhere between your computer and your wii.
because it happens with both of your memorycards theWolfMonkey I suspect maybe your sd card is corrupting it?

Have you been using the same SD card for everything? Can you test with a different SD card?
