Third party controller

Hi everyone first post here so forgive me if it's obvious

I have a third party controller in the gamecube style but which directly connects using usb a
I incorrectly followed some guides suggesting i change the driver whilst not realising that this only appplied to using a port adapter with a real gamecube controller 
nevertheless I returned the driver to its original
In both cases the controller goes completely undetected, even after refreshing, checking the drop-down, restarting the pc, etc.

Any ideas?

What version of Dolphin are you using? Your profile says "r 18", but that's not a valid version number for any official version of Dolphin.

is what I downloaded
so v5.9 I think?

Ah, so you're using Slippi. Slippi's controller support is very different from Dolphin's because it's based on an old version of Dolphin, so you should ask the Slippi support people if you want to use this controller with Slippi.

So if I downloaded dolphin there would be no problem right?
I was just following a guide
anything that can do melee netplay is good

Your controller should show up in the devices dropdown, yes.

Regular Dolphin can do Melee netplay, but it can't do it with rollback like the latest versions of Slippi can. (Slippi r18 can't do rollback either.)
