Gamers should start replacing the acronym "IPC" with the phrase "Single threaded perf" and they'll start making more sense.

a lot more goes into single threaded perf then just IPC. Also IPC is a weird metric when you realize that every instruction takes varying numbers of cycles, and power (like, electrical). cache misses can screw with that
Just say single threaded perf. I know gamers like to sound smart but a lot goes into perf. It's like when gamers were jerking it about core count not too long ago or frequency longer ago 09-25-2017, 02:51 AM
Galaxy S8/Note 8 is so boring id recommend anyone an iphone 8. Android phones are in a self destructing process lol And if you want a boring phone then iPhone is your best choice.
the A11 chip by apple just sets all android phones "back" by 5 years if you would ask me lol 09-25-2017, 05:31 AM

The current phones aren't changing or performing any less. 09-25-2017, 12:58 PM
The A11 is a very impressive chip and if I bought my devices purly on the performance of the CPU/GPU and how well the operating system can leverage both then I would get the Iphone 8.
But I don't since besides emulation, gaming and video editing (I would have to be pretty desperate to want to video edit on a phone) most flagship lines have had enough power for a few years. Most inexpensive phones (let alone flagships) can decode video content well in excess of resolutions needed for a sub 10" display. Camera quality is more an issue of storage speed and sensor quality at this point. And yes you could multitask 20 things at one time..... but really at that point a latptop/desktop is just more convenient. So yes since I like emulation and emulation on the go I do tend to spend far more then anyone needs to spend on a phone these days, but honestly itunes is more of an issue to me the the speed of a processor. 09-25-2017, 01:48 PM
How mobile score can be compared to desktop scores in Geekbench? Do they match? Because it's weird to a 2.0GHz mobile CPU to do 4000+ points while 7th gen Intel CPU with 3.5GHz (like i5 7600) does 4500 to 5000. Is mobile tech so advanced? I don't have an advanced knowladge about this, but I try to learn as much as I can.
PC: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / GTX 660 2GB / 16GB DDR4 3600MHz / Windows 10 Pro
Phones: Poco F3 8/256GB (Snapdragon 870 5G) and Redmi Note 6 Pro 4/64GB (Snapdragon 636) 09-25-2017, 02:11 PM

The score is supposed to be comparable, but this sort of thing has been a frequent source of debate because desktop processors do seem to score low relative to mobile processors. A11 being 80% of a 7600 is ridiculous considering the clock speed difference. |
