Not sure about that , all Gigabyte Z87 board use Japanese Solid Caps just like Asrock Z87
I admit Asrock board looks bad ass because they paint their caps with gold
Gigabyte has DualBios protection , very good for overclocking
To be more specific , either 1 of these is fine :

I think to be limited by your mobo you must have great oc skills and aim for an hardcore oc, 80% of people who buy 200$ mobo dont need more than a 120$ ones. Oc an intel is so easy.. cheap mobo can still do it very well.

They're still missing a lot of nice features that only asrock boards have. Dust/corrosion/water proof coating, high end integrated audio, CIR support, hdmi switching, dehumidifier, and a boatload of other stuff. I also think asrock has a better uefi setup personally. Don't get me wrong gigabyte makes some fine motherboards. And they both have high end electronics and good UEFIs.

Second that. I've bought 3 ASRock mobos in the past two years, and they are all top notch. I won't buy any other brands anymore.
Quote: 85C is maximum temp with Prime95(full load) or Dolphin ( 2 / 4 cores) ?
Yeah, that statement was misleading, it's running Dolphin so only 2 cores are maxed out. Running Prime95, the temperatures aren't much different, however (around 87C max).
Quote: Is your chip delidded? What thermal paste are you using?
That's an interesting thought - I'd never considered delidding, but I hear that I might be able to buy another 10C or so by doing it (which could even mean a slight OC on my system). Do you recommend replacing Intel's shit TIM for something better (and keeping the lid), or getting rid of the lid altogether?

That being said, smells like it's about time for me to stop hijacking this thread and make my own :p

Yeah , replace it with Arctic MX-4
Do not remove the lid ! the heatsink may damage your CPU

FWIW, I forgot to mention I was using Arctic Silver 5 between the CPU and heatsink.

Becareful , I've heard it's electrically conductive grease

Totally fine but not sure it's safe or not if you apply it inside the lid

But do I need this? I thought this was only used in phones before bluetooth was common

As for HDMI switching, I may or may not find this useful at some point, and the UK isn't known for high humidity, so which features are there that I definitely want? I'm beginning to worry that this stuff won't be in stock for a while, and if so, I may have to go for an alternative.

All of the Z87 boards on newegg have it from what I can tell. Including the ones below $150 (roughly 100 pounds if I recall). I didn't even know they had boards that were that expensive.

The really high end boards have built in 802.11ac wifi and "cloud" (server) functionality build into the UEFI.

You don't necessarily. I'm just listing some of the features that asrock has that other brands don't have that make them objectively/subjectively better. Even if you don't need them it's better to have them then not have them for the same price in case you ever end up needing them.

You will appreciate the better audio quality though. That I can personally guarantee.

I can't tell you whether to wait or not. That decision is completely up to you.
