Alright, I was thinking: when life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make HD texture packs instead!
About this project
In short: 4x waifu2x-cpp upscaling with manual tweaks. Aimed at EU (G4SP01) version. Read GitHub page for more info.
I've been enjoying this game for quite a while, so when I saw custom texture feature in Dolphin, this idea occurred in my mind. After few month of work, I'm glad to present this project to Dolphin community.
Unlike other project, this one aims at believable look instead of pixelated one. It is absolutely a matter of taste which one you should use.
waifu2x-cpp have been used for 4x upscaling. Some of textures have been tweaked manually to ensure best look. Few minor visual glitches are still present.
More information and download
You can take a look at official repository at https://github.com/v1993/fsa-hd.
Or download pack at [Image: G4SP01.7z].
Install it by unpacking into "your_dolphin_folder/Load/Textures".

I dont know why your work didnt get even one reply but honestly, your textures look really good! If you remade the textures instead upscaling, it could be even a truly remaster! But I know its hard to do and your textures are still good.

Thanks! Well, FSA is far from popular game, I guess.

Remaking textures would take a lot of work and a different set of skills for sure, but would be amazing. However, since this game generates texture atlases on the fly, remaking textures would be near impossible for some objects.

Hi !

I just caught my interest on FSA since it's one of some Zelda games I don't know at all.
What a surprise I saw you made a gorgeous HD pack for it ! This game sadly has not aged well ...

Thank you a lot for that ! You deserve more regards.

In regards to graphics, they were a weak part if of this title already at launch. In terms of gameplay, however, I really love FSA, even in single player it makes for more linear but really enjoyable experience (something I sadly can't say about TFH).

Either way, glad my work is useful for others as well!

Any chance of a option for pixel sprites? The backgrounds look great like this, they look too bland pixelated, buy the character sprites look terrible and would look amazing with pixels on the better backgrounds.

Sadly, very unlikely. Backgrounds and sprites are often stored in same dynamically-generated spritesheets, and there are about five thousands of these, most of them different. It would be near impossible to process them all manually, since there is not much of pattern for automation.
On the other hand, some sprites are stored separately from backgrounds, so you can try deleting some folders or files and see what happens. I expect the result to sometimes seemingly randomly jump between different version tho, because there are often many copies of the same image (in different spritesheets).
