Zelda Four Swords Enhanced Ver. 0.2

I remember finally getting my hands on this game, putting the disc on and being deeply dissapointed by how muddy it looked. It detracted me from enjoying the game and never got any far.

After some experimenting I got working textures that are 8 times the size of the originals, maintaining their pixel ratio. Then spent over a month remaking all textures for the initial version of the pack using different methods like redrawing, retracing, Waifu upscaling, all of which resulted in a sharp and clean game experience.

I like to imagine this is what the developers originally intended for it to look, they used 1:1 sprites and couldn't take into consideration the limitations of the console at the time, this pack aims to restore that vision.

Instructions

- Scroll down and download the file you need
- Extract it's contents into your "Dolphin Emulator > Load > Textures" folder

Note: It's made for the NTSC-U version of the game (G4SE01).

Make sure 'Load Custom Textures' and 'Prefetch Custom Textures' are checked under the advanced tab of your graphic settings in Dolphin.

This proyect is made with love but making textures is a lot of work and sucks your life away. If you wish to take your support a step further please consider donating.

Thanks to:
- Vaati for his FS sprite rips on The Spriters Resource.
- Iron Knuckle for his WW sprite rips on Zelda Legends.
- Zeldapedia for hosting some images that I used.
- Bighead for his Texture Tool, it was extremely helpful for batch resizing and DDS converting.

Contributing
If you want to help, hit me with a message and let me know what you want to do. Right now I'm looking for someone who knows how to manipulate 3D models to remake some of the bosses in the game using Wind Waker assets, If you know 3D and want to contribute please contact me.

Known Bugs
Water effects like reflections and transparency don't work with the texture pack on. I don't know what causes this, any help regarding this is much appreciated.
This set of stairs at the end of Level 1 is invisible when using the pack.

I'm new to this kind of work so expect buggy releases as I go trough the learning curve but feel free to use this thread to report any bugs you spot.
If you have any questions ask away, I check the forums regularly.

Enjoy the game!

Some games have aged terribly, the best game can look like the worst and that's just unfair.

Using the skills I leveled over the years, the plan is to restore these for modern times, leaving the original art direction intact.
You could say the goal of this series is to 'enhance'.

Check out the rest of my work and enjoy these restoring efforts.

That was quick, thanks for moving my thread!
I hope so too, I've been making some tests and touching these games feels like a dream job.
After years of lurking around, feels good to finally try and give something back.

Thanks, please download and play!
The game like this feels so much different, screenshots don't do it justice, you have to try it!

Theres another pack for this game here, but i gotta say yours is pretty fantastic in comparison, gonna wait for more updates.

On that note, Mario 64, there's an amazing Pack by Admentus for that game, did you checked it out? Maybe he could help you if needed for your next project already listed

Yes, this pack from masterotaku.
It looks quite good! And his pack doesn't have the water bug, I'm sending him a message to see if he can help me out.

I'll be sure to contact Admentus to see if we wants to assist me because I'm a complete noob, and I did check his pack out, it's pretty cool but differs too much from the original art style for me.

Wow, I'm new to Dolphin, but the fact that you can make these kind of things isn't short of amazing! This looks like a respectful way to play the game as the devs probably planned, at least regarding the sprites :-D

@Mars

You might want to try xBRZ on the pixel textures and then modify them to make it easier, I was going to also mention Waifu2x but it looks like you've used it some there.

Looks good keep it up!

I actually started this a year ago but eventually ditched it. You did a WAY better job. I am so happy you did this pack. Thank you so much! I look forward to your future updates/projects
