Man, that excuse in refusing to publish Dolphin for Android TV sucks. What are we supposed to do, ship a generic x86 version without JIT just to get the app installed on Nexus Player and make Google Support team happy? Dodgy

I wonder if we could include the generic x86, get it accepted, and remove it again with the next update Rolleyes

Thanks for the great article!

So I remember this post, would usage statistics reporting be useful for the Android port as well? And maybe it's more motivational for devs as well to read factual results rather than "My X-Snapdragon 430 device can't run this game at 60 fps, this emulator sucks!!11!1!!" Big Grin

This is stupid, focus on branches people actually use, not the 5 people who are trying to play gamecube games on their phone. Why don't we make a post about how well the emulator is working on Windows 98 or the Apple 2, that's as relevant as Android emulation. I'm glad the reviewer refused to put you on the app store, until the Windows version is 100% accurate you shouldn't even be attempting to port the emulator to objectively inferior operating systems like Android or Linux.

Why the hate for Android? I don't see the problem with Dolphin being ported to mobile devices.

Ya probably never get a 100% complete version of Dolphin. The evolution of Windows itself might allow Dolphin to evolve as well (ahh good times when DirectX 11 was introduced). I don't really think the focus on mobile development will harm the development on x64 desktop platforms. It's not like everyone is suddenly gone towards mobile development forever.

Besides, there should not be much difference in how Dolphin operate on Mac, Linux of Windows. Dolphin is designed to be multi-platform. It is mostly the backends for the audio and video that are going to matter in that case... Such as DirectX being Windows exclusive. But I since Vulkan anyway these days which also supports Linux. And Vulkan should be supported on Android too I think. Hopefully I am correct here?

I am willing to bet as soon as the word goes out that mobile devices and Dolphin are perfectly capable at emulating everything at full-speed with enhancements, the audience for that will be astoundingly big. I would too.

Besides, if you want the Windows version for Dolphin to be 100% accurate, I would say start coding on it. It isn't going to achieve that compactability suddenly while on it's own.

You're right, I'm going to stop focusing on core emulation stuff and get to the important features like making the Advance Game Port work. Thx for the b8, m8.

Ohh yeah, I totally forgot. I rather have the developers work on the Game Boy Player. I mean, who doesn't want to play their Game Boy games on a GameCube emulator.

I mean, who really needs Dolphin to play GameCube and Wii games on their Windows computer. No one does these days.

*end sarcasm*

I sense a new article incoming? Way too many articles the past month, be sure don't to burn yourselves out.

But seriously, as always this article is a great read. And as I said before, I am certainly interested in a mobile port once perfected (which is mostly the evolution of hardware), but of course you gotta start from somewhere. As far as I am concerned, it is only a matter of time. I am already feeling it, running Super Smash Bros. Melee in 4K at 60 FPS in widescreen on the go. I should buy a better tablet eventually then.
