I've tried it.
I think it's awesome.
I'm still using it!

I tried it this morning and enjoyed see'ing Mario Galaxy 2 run off my laptop, (thanks be to God for flukey LG Drives), with real WiiMotes and 2 Candles.

My brother came in and just said. "That defy's all laws of logic, but it's win." (He's 12, he thought it was cool. Tongue)

why would it defy laws of logic? a sensor bar is made up of 2 infrared LEDs that get detected from the wiimote, but any Infrared source, such as candles with fire, emit infrared lights for the wiimote to see and work with. this can also be done with tv remotes(when a button is pushed) and stuff like that Wink

As good as it may work, no way I bring candles anywhere near my computer screen. I've tried hooking up my wii infront of my PC and used the sensor bar though. It somehow felt like Wii-abuse.

Must agree with Gundam. Either your brother is young or does not understand quite well how a sensor bar or wiimote works.

The wiimote only calculates the pointer position and distance via infrared light that hits the black camera lens in the front. (accelerometer can be used just fine without it).

Candle flames generate infrared light. You could just as well even tape two TV remotes to emit IR by taping down a button and placing them 30cm apart from each other.
It's only logical it will work as a sensor bar. It would be against the laws of physics for it not to work.

The Wii sensor bar doesn't feed any data to the console at all despite being plugged in it. It's just a power cord.
You can use literally anything that creates infrared light to control a wiimote's pointer.

Yeah...any object that is hotter than its surroundings emit infrared radiations and if the object is cooler, it will absorb it. Infrared radiation is an electromagnetic radiations that is a means of transfer of heat in vacuum. We receive heat from the sun due to this radiation only.

The Wii sensor bar only sense the reflected infrared radiations from Wiimote to figure out its direction and distance, much like a radar.

We can use any hot object to control wii pointer as mentioned by ocean, I think even our fevered body is enough....Tongue
Bad joke.

@KHRZ
PC generates enormous amount of heat, which is a source of somewhat lower frequency IR radiations(LOL...) this is enough for sensor bar if detected correctly.

About 2 or 3 days ago, here there was a very hot day, and when I was playing at Wii sport I pointed wiimote out of door-window and I noticed I can use the ir pointer perfectly! Out of window there was so much hot that I can point wiimote out and play without any problem!Smile

Catholic wax incense.
It must also be from the Vatican, no other types of candle emit invisible infrared (holy) light.

I had problems with tea candles, they just didn't generate enough light for me.

And my brothers 12 and just finished elementary school, so go figure Tongue
