Hmm with all the years behind me I could as well contribute a little with the effects video games have on me.

First I love games so much that I can get obsessed and withdrawn with any game that is worth my attention for weeks.
Take Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition for example for the PS3, I have played it every day constantly 10-12 hours now since the release.
I have completed most of the quests/good character quests along with the expansions perfectly and visited every location, I have leveled up to the max 50 level and chose every perk very carefully.
It's a 100% GOOD character run.

I'm a little bit crazy, but believe me when I say I have done this on the PC version also.

Conclusion, obsessive thoughts and withdrawn from family and friends for weeks like a vampire or something.

Another example of mild obsession is FIFA 12 on the PS3 also, I have spent countless of hours on the career mode, and have won every match perfectly with my team.

When I start a game I don't just play it for a couple of hours and take a break, I finish it even if it takes weeks.

For me all these years games have been, and still is my no.1 drug and the only thing that can make me relax.

But I'm single so what do I really care.

And I don't hesitate for a minute to replay a game that I think I can improve things on.

There are some games out there that make you like things that this game represents.. lets take for example my 2 fav games on my ps3... Split/Second and NFS Hot Pursuit.. I love Split/Second because it is so hardcore so epic that the 1st time I played the demo of it I fell in love with it.. months later , I bought the game and I couldn't stop playing it!! the cars... the music... the destruction... I never liked destruction and trailer music b4 this game,(its because this game features an epic soundtrack which u would mostly hear this music on action movies & stuff) But now... I LOVE DESTRUCTION! I LOVE TRAILER MUSIC!! MAN! EVEN AFTER TWO YEARS OF PLNG THIS GAME I STILL LOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!!!!! as for Hot Pursuit.. well.. pursuits Tongue

There are plenty of positive effects to modern gaming. Google around, and I think you'll find articles on how the Wii's motion controls improves hand-eye coordination. I believe I read some articles a while back saying how it helped with wounded vets both physically and psychologically. Also, heard something about a link between good surgeons and gaming, or something like that, some link of some sort. Those would be good official sources for gaming. My own indie game, Mass Blaster, promotes ambidexterity in players.

More anecdotal and personal evidence of the affects of games: I'd say lack of sleep for me. I guess I've become a very empathic person, having played so many RPGs. It really irks me when people die even if it's just a game. I always think "what a waste," so it's changed my attitude towards others. Even with violent games like the Halo franchise, I still find myself dismayed when one of my virtual Marines gets killed. I play games to enjoy myself, but also to inspire myself with new ideas for some of my projects.

My thumbs can bend back it's upper part (above the upper joint) more than other people's. I think that is because I've been pressing controller buttons since I was 4.

The positive effects of gaming for me is regular and constant brain exercise, better reaction and better confidence.
