sadly, none of the sse instruction sets have ever impressed me. i guess what i mean to say is that when i am shopping for a processor i don't check to see what instruction sets it's capable of handling. i think back in the 66mhz days sse and mmx meant something. nowadays, it's hard thinking a small amount of code optimization is gonna make a difference when you have a multiple core cpu running at 3+ ghz.

because of your ignorance where it comes to proper use of instruction sets to optimise applications.
SSE is used in almost everything now, and the difference between AMD and Intel comes down to AMD sucking hard at SSE3, and not supporting any higher than a small crapset of SSE4 deemed 4a. 01-20-2011, 10:38 AM
I agree. For anything even remotely vector intensive sse4.2 is a MUST HAVE.

He has a first gen i7 (i7 920 if memory serves) OCed to at least 3.8GHz. His cpu can beat yours into a bloddy pulp in literally any benchmark you can throw at it, including dolphin. The fact that sse4.2 compatibility matters for dolphin can be proven by comparing sse3 and sse4.2 builds on an i7 rig and noting the significantly higher performance on the sse4.2 builds. Not trying to start an amd vs. intel war here just stating that for dolphin sse4.1/sse4.2 compatibility does matter, a lot, that's a fact that you can't get around no matter how you look at it.

go and search some dual ddr2 vs triple ddr3 benchmarks
and see what speed ist. with intelstresstest i got last week 50gflops overclocked... @normal clocks still 36gflops the 50gflops were 1993 the specc of the best supercomputer |
