The package manager and software manager take care of that for me. I use Firefox and Thunderbird, because they run, straight out of the box. I have been spoiled by the windows side, sorry. I use QuiteRSS, Pidgin and Pan, again because they run straight out of the box. The Dolphin crew seems to have set their sights on Android rather than Linux, and I can't fault them for that - you go where the people are (windows first, Mac second, Android third, and then maybe Linux - but there are few gamers there).
