On average gamecube games actually require more power than wii games to emulate properly, due to so many titles using MMU...

Frankly Crysis 3 running at all was impressive, but it's not even close to 1080p or 60FPS. as for CPU performance, I'm more than sure the Denver cores are beaten here, due to a combination of irregularities with the Denver architecture, and the fact that the Nexus 9's lack of OpenGL cripples its performance (and without any other Denver devices you have no examples to work with).

Well the CPU for now is unknown for now, K1 had also a spec sheat that google/motorola ignored. So nVidia might consider another CPU and here is the reason why. X1 board specs as on nVidia site where ment for tablet's but since this is not a tablet and got a higher target wattage instead of the 20w it might have another CPU then we think. So we only can wait until nVidia release full spec sheat of the nVidia Shield Console. Like i said, i might have a intel Atom or Intel M CPU since they cost not much but got the power to deliver higher CPU performance to run such games. Another reason i think Shield Console have a other CPU is because crysis 3 is only Shield Console compatible and not shield tablet. Crysis 3 use CPU and GPU resources and the raw performance between A15 and A57 is not really big (around 5/10% performance increase). So the could lower the settings on the Shield Tablet to run the game optimal even with a weaker CPU/GPU. And with that being said, i think the Shield Console won't get A57/A53 octa core chip. But this is all speculation for now of course. 03-06-2015, 12:42 AM
There is no way "Tegra X1" would refer to a non-ARM CPU. I doubt whether there will even be different models; the K1 was an exception there since they wanted to squeeze 64-bit compatibility in when it wasn't quite ready.

Well if you check the Nvidia blog you can read all about the architecture and how it uses the octal core A57/A53 placement and it was even show at the CES presentation reveal in a slide and even the processor spec page says the same. I think this is one of those things that until we get it in our hands and play Crysis with it we won't be able to believe it!

Yeah they kinda did say right away that it was an octa core A57/A53 configuration. No mystery there. And definitely enough to give Denver a slap around. Since denver has to "build performance" it suffers performance drops when new code is run, because the ARM translator is relatively slow and completely murders the IPC when active.

Why would you want to emulate a GC on a X1 console while you can get a moded wii for a 100 bucks, which will play both WII and GC games ?
In my opinion the major value added of this emu is to be able to play games on the go (laptop or tablets) (03-06-2015, 12:14 AM)RDilus Wrote:(03-05-2015, 08:20 AM)Nintonito Wrote: Frankly Crysis 3 running at all was impressive, but it's not even close to 1080p or 60FPS. as for CPU performance, I'm more than sure the Denver cores are beaten here, due to a combination of irregularities with the Denver architecture, and the fact that the Nexus 9's lack of OpenGL cripples its performance (and without any other Denver devices you have no examples to work with). Crysis 3 run with JIT Armv8(That's how Half Life 2/Portal run on Shield Tablet (with JIT Armv7)) so that's why Tegra K1 is not compatible with Crysis for now. We don't know if they planned to release a K1 version(But i don't think so) Armv7 instructions is bad, slow and limited compared to Armv8. The only information we haven't is the cpu frequency because Nvidia don't set it again for some reasons.
