If you all may know (or not), nvidia show us today the shield console.
The shield console have the most powefull hardware in android hardware that will blow your mind.

New Info
2/7/2015 > Benchmarks regarding the Shield Console are online! http://www.legitreviews.com/nvidia-shield-set-top-console-benchmarks_159587

The specs:
Tegra X1 CPU ARMv8 A57/A53 Octa Core @ ?,??Ghz With a nVidia Maxwell GPU with 256 Cores With 3GB Ram
Support for 4K Resolution
16GB Storage with support for MicroSD and external HDD
2 USB 3.0 Ports
IR Receiver
Gigabit Internet
Wifi AC 5Ghz
Bluetooth 4.1/BLE
40w power usage

Source: http://shield.nvidia.com/console

So this tiny console suppost to get triple A pc games like Crysis 3 on android.
And yes not grid streaming but really getting the game running on android!
With that being said, we will see a 64-Bit CPU either quad core or octa core.

Is this good news for dolphin emulation? Yes it is.
So far we know snapdragon 8xx doing already a good job trying to emulate dolphin and the Nvidia K1 chip is doing even better and faster!
The X1 chip is about 50% faster then the K1 chip, with his maxwell what have been proven in the pc world a huge improvement in performance with less cuda cores will make the K1 chip look like nothing.
And not to mention, the console price is only 200 dollars!

So what do you think about nvidia's new Shield product?
Will you buy it or skip it?

And for dolphin devs, do you think this might give dolphin on android a huge framerate boost or not?

It's a console/non-portable... might as well just use a PC.

This won't help us at all. We can't use more than 1 or 2 cores.

These 50% are for the GPU, so you can play at a higher resolution. For emulation performance, only single core CPU performance matters. As the X1 "only" have A57 cores instead of the Denver within the K1, I guess it may also be slower. The X1 is build for multi-core, the K1-Denver is a dual core CPU which tries to get single threaded faster...

If you want to buy a faster one than the K1, you maybe have to wait for the Tegra Parker SOC...

I don't completly agree with you. The Shield(X1) support full OpenGL context. The JIT armv8 have clears avantage. More gpu power is maybe not very usefull at low res but in 4K. Denver is not really fast in real world application. And if this is a desktop platform so don't really care about power consumption. The processor have been push to the maximum frequency.

At least Nvidia Shield can replace Gamecube in your livingroom. Tongue

It won't replace GC because I do not think it runs most GC games fullspeed.

Wii on other hand has all these qualities.

If you can find a pc that can run crysis 3 60fps 1080p for 200 dollars let me know.

About Crysis 3, if it can run the game @60fps 1080p the console have some serious CPU and GPU power.
So i think it will run most of the gamecube games just fine.
But i guess we have to wait until we know more about the CPU because we know the GPU is more then strong enough.
If i have to believe nVidia site we are getting the following CPU.

Quote:8 CPU-core, 64-bit ARM® CPU
4x A57 2MB L2; 4x A53 512KB L2 - See more at: http://www.nvidia.com/object/tegra-x1-processor.html#sthash.8Yg7EZ9e.dpuf

I don't know how strong this CPU is and one of you probs know the raw power of this CPU.

Personally i am curious why it needs 40 watts to work when the nvidia chip it uses is way lower power than that, as a tablet-smartphone chip.

There's no mention of that game anywhere in your source. In fact the entire "GAMES" segment is focused on GRID/streaming, with absolutely no information about native game performance.

Eh, now you sound like the people who regularly turn up here wondering why SMG2 is lagging on their brand new PC that has no trouble playing the newest PC games with settings maxed out.

If You click on the android next to where it says Grid before the list of games you get the list of games for the console not the streaming service, plus they mentioned/played multiplayer during the event last night.

I never said anything about wii games in the first place...i was talking purely about gamecube games.
Obvious i know SMG2 is one heavy game to emulate.
But the pure standpoint for gamecube, yes more gamecube games will run faster on nVidia console.
Also the A57 combined with the maxwell GPU are not close to the 40w power usage nVidia is giving us.
So we might even see a intel Atom i5 (yes atom's have now the same line as high end line) or even intel M.
But like i said before, we have to wait until nVidia release more infomation about the CPU.
