Tearing in all games and instable fps in Xenoblade

Hi everyone!

This is another Xenoblade Chronicles thread, I couldn’t find a solution to my problems. I have a dedicated emulation PC connected with my TV and Dolphin produces tearing in all games and has performance issues in Xenoblade (i havent tested much else).

The main components of the PC are:
  • Pentium G3258 @ 4.4 Ghz
  • Nvidia 960 GTX (Asus Strix)
  • 8 GB DDR3 RAM
  • 128 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD (roms are stored here)
  • Windows 10 x64 (fall update installed)

First I thought that the problems could be an I/O issue, but it looks like that isn’t the case (especially after I’ve tweaked the HDDs firmware).
Tearing appears all the time in fullscreen mode, but mostly during transitions in menus or similar situations. I’ve tried Dolphins Vsync and Nvidias Vsync but nothing worked. Borderless windows doesn’t really work, I have to active and deactivate it multiple time to get it working.

Beside the general tearing issue I also have instable fps in Xenoblade. I use the default settings except 3x resolutions (or 4x, doesn’t make much difference), 2x MSAA (I think that’s the default one), 16x AF and OpenGL.
I use the Xenoblade Core Texture Pack (DDS) and I'll install the PS3 button icons tomorrow. Some cutscenes have the same issue.

Are there any tips to fix both issues? The fps drops are annoying but the tearing really bothers me.

My used build is maybe a month old, I'll update it tomorrow, but I doubt it will impact the performance in a meaningful way.

I've updated to the latest dolphin version today and the issue is still here.
What's really weird about the tearing is, that the fullscreen borderless mode seems to eliminated the issue ... if it works. If I start dolphin, I have to change something in the graphics menu, start the game, stop it and revert the change, then the tearing issue is gone.
That's obviously not optimal, because I usally start dolphin via the cmd (emulationstation) and I dont't want to see dolphin's gui to begin with.

1) NVIDIA Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings -> Dolphin.exe -> Vertical Sync = Use the 3D application setting
2) Enable "Vertical Sync" on Dolphin

That should fix the tearing.
