Tales of symphonia field map

When I play Tales of Symphonia (USA Version) on the x87 Game Cube Emulator, and I enter the field map, the screen is all black, and the only thing that I can do is go back to Iselia (The starting town) by pressing "A", or got to the menu - what is wrong?
