So I downloaded dolphin specifically for a couple of games. One of them is action replaying Tales of Symphonia, my favorite game. I got myself the iso for it, but it doesn't really work I'm sorry ahead of time if I screw up anything in this post, but here goes...

r4771
What works:
a) I can hear something. And, although blind, because I've played this game before,
b) I can navigate a menu and start a new game.
c) The controls (keyboard) seem to work as well.

What does not work:
Anything visual.
Sound is terribly slow. I can barely tell what they're saying sometimes.

Emulation Speed
FPS constantly drops until around 29 then skips around from 9-45, generally returning to 29. VPS drops until ~70% and either stays there or goes back up after the narration ends.
I've played blind (as in, the only thing I can see is a yellow screen) all the way up to where Raine wakes Lloyd, they start talking, and Genis answers in Lloyd's stead. The voices for the narration and Lloyd's, Genis's, and Raine's voices--heck, ALL the audio is insanely slow and choppy. Although sometimes when I bring it up, Raine and Lloyd as well as everything past the narration, are almost normal. And I can't see a thing. Nothing. This is somewhere between slow and not at all in terms of how much it emulates.

Additional Information
I have no clue what to do or what's going on. I would love help.
I think my system meets all the specs required. I look at what's needed to run dolphin, and I've got it all.

http://www.dolphin-emu.org Download a newer version.

Also use the D3D plugin since it's faster than OGL.

Post your system specs too.

THank you so much. I looked though so many threads and couldn't find anything. I can see! XD

The voices are normal now, but the actions are still really slow in any cutscene or battle. FPS remains the same as before, sometimes a little better.

I dunno my system specs really well. I just kinda recognize some things like "Oh, I have that"
Here's what I know for sure:
Windows XP
Dual Core
and ATI card
1.67 Ghz (but runs way faster than at least 7 other machines that are at ~2.1 and up Ghz)

Yeah....can tell I'm pretty clueless up there. Heh.

ouch...1.67 GHz is a bit little for Dolphin...not sure what you mean with it being faster than 2.1-machines; maybe those were single core.
I don't think you will get the game to fullspeed on that machine.
Other than that, I think most of the game is emulated well (from what I've read), except for that damn "missing instruments" thing which makes this game and some others rather unenjoyable (at least for music lovers Wink ).
Intel i5-4690k (Devil's Canyon) @ 3.5 GHz (+Scythe Mugen) / Gainward GTX 1070 Phoenix (OC'd) / ASUS Z97 PRO GAMER / 16GB G.Skill DDR3-2400 CL10 TridentX / X-Fi XtremeMusic / Win10 Pro 64bit / Dell S2716DG Monitor / 3x original WiiMote+MotionPlus+Nunchuk

Ok, Thanks. I game with a bunch of dudes on fridays, and their machines are way slower than mine, but have higher GHz and are newer. At least two of them definitely have dual core. I dunno too much about this kinda thing, so I don't really know why or anything or other factors ^^;
Eh, well, I get what I want. I can play ToS with action replay cheats, which is really the point for me. If I just wanna play it straight I can always boot up my old GC.

Their machines could be infected with spyware, or cluttered up with other stuff that can slow it down. The fact is that your CPU really is slow for Dolphin, you won't be able to run this game, or others for that matter at full speeds. Your Graphic Card is also on the bad side, but it's not as important as the CPU. And yes, I agree with StripTheSoul, Tales of Symphonia is a great game, but the lack of BGM kills some of my interest. I really enjoyed the soundtrack in ToS a lot, but I guess I'll manage.

Hmm. Ok, I guess that makes sense. Thanks. Gah, I really need to read up on this stuff. >.>
