I switched to dolphin 4.0 for android to test if a bug would happen howeverupon constant crashing and the app failing to work i switched back to the latest version of dolphin 5.0. Where before everything ran at 25-50 fps on my Samsung n s8 snapdragon 835, now it runs at 5-10 upon switching back to dolphin 5p. I've tried everything but i don't know why the performance suddenly dropped. Does anyone know why this happened or how to fix. My settings are the same as before and the huge drop is persisting.

I managed to fix the problem by going into the ini and setting fast mem to true. I don't know why it changed on it's own can anyone explain

Fast mem skips some memory verifications resulting in speed up but it can broke the game.

That's not an accurate description of what fastmem does. Are you maybe thinking of the MMU setting?

Until fast mem was active I saw an fps drop of 20. Making me think it was intended to be turned on.

Yeah, fastmem should essentially always be turned on. The only exception is if you have a really old and bad device that can't run Dolphin at all when fastmem is enabled (but such a device won't be able to run Dolphin well anyway), or if you want to run Dolphin under a debugger without being bothered by constant segfaults.

Well, that was what I read from a PPSSPP dev years ago, probably I understood wrong. But I think it's a good lay explanation.  Smile

What exactly is fastmem and how do I enable it? Sorry to kind of hijack this thread, but I'd love any extra speed I can get.

It's a setting in the config.ini. you can set it to true or false to enable or disable it. I doubt yours is disabled as my fps was significantly reduced when it was to the point of things being unplayable but you can access it using any android text editors and going into  config.ini and setting fastmem to true. Good luck!

If you want to know exactly what fastmem is, there's an explanation at page 9 of this PDF, but it's rather technical: https://www.alchemistowl.org/pocorgtfo/pocorgtfo06.pdf
