Super Paper Mario Chapter 6-2 Crash

Hello, I have been playing through Super Paper Mario, and I can't seem to get past one particular part. Right after the fight with Mimi in chapter 6-2 when you talk to the soldier and the world is about to be destroyed, I get the following error message: Error... Line 33 File: VertexShaderGen.cpp Time: 18:45:25 Ignore and Continue?

If I choose yes it just keeps popping up the same error message, and if I choose no, Dolphin crashes. I'm on the latest revision. I've tried every possible setting I can think of (enabling and disabling bounding box, changing the backend from D3D to OpenGL, diabling and enabling the XFB, changing the texture cache, etc.) and nothing works. It still crashes. Any idea why this might be happening, or how I might be able to fix it?

What version of Dolphin are you using?

UPDATE: I went ahead and downloaded the latest stable revision, 4.0.2, and this crash doesn't happen in that version. Something in one of the newer revisions broke this game. Might be something worth looking into.

Can you bisect the builds and see what build the crash started happening in?
Pick a build about halfway between 4.0.2 and 4.0-8044, then see if it is or is not happening. If it is, pick a bisect on the lower side. If it is not, bisect upwards

No need to. Those asserts are just wrong as the real hardware is able to configure this states: https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/b...en.cpp#L33

Hello. I'm experiencing this issue in the 5.0 build.
I receive an error message stating the issue is at Line 31, File: VertexShaderGen.cpp
Is there solution?

I had the same issue, download and use 4.0.2 to avoid the crash and until you can save, then go back to whatever build you were using before.

Don't use 4.0.2. It is outdated. You should not recommend older builds, unless you can specificially pinout an older development build where the issue does not occur. Also I am pretty sure this was fixed a long time ago, so 5.0 should be OK. In fact, using 4.0.2 only makes it worser.

Just make sure you GPU support Bounding Boxes (NVidia Geforce 400 Series and newer, AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5000 series and newer or Intel HD Graphics 5300+). As you might expect, you should enable Bounding Boxes and disable EFB Copies to Texture Only for this game at all times (Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door requires this too). Check out https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?t...aper_Mario for more information. It is also recommended to use D3D12 or OpenGL since D3D11 is quite slow with Bounding Box emulation (it only affects NVidia cards through). You might also want to try out the newer Official Development Builds. It might or might not have been solved already. But as far as I know, Dolphin 5.0 should be fine to use.

Hmm, I don't want to be that guy but this thread was last used in 10-21-2015. Should this not be locked? You should perhaps open a new thread instead to illustrate your issue with Super Paper Mario.

This issue was resolved with the hardware bounding box rewrite. If you're using 5.0 or newer and want the games to work, then you need a supported GPU.
