FOR /R loops are better than /F to recurse through subdirectories. PUSHD can go to the directory in the current loop iteration, but referencing it will show the directory ending with a period.

FOR /R %%F in (.) do (PUSHD&ECHO %%F)

will print something like..
C:\Directory\.
C:\Directory\SubDirectory\.
C:\Directory\SubDirectory\SubSubDirectory\.

..which will throw off some stuff. The period needs to be manually truncated. I do something like this...
set FolderNameWithDot=%%F
set CurrentFolderPath=!FolderNameWithDot:~0,-1!

And it would require another loop within the loop. First loop is just to go through each sub directory, 2nd loop would have to loop through PNG files in the current directory. For this, /R is no longer needed.

FOR %%G in (.png) do (

If I get some free time tonight I'll do you a solid and check this stuff out and see if I can make you something. I haven't been following closely so I'm not 100% sure what you're trying to do here, but I shouldn't be busy in a few hours.

Whow man, thanks a lot, but I don't understand a single word >_<
So basically I just want that tool OptiPNG (http://optipng.sourceforge.net/ ) to optimize all PNGs within a designated folder AND its subfolders.
What I've done to just optimize all PNGs in one folder is put the OptiPNG.exe into the folder, then open cmd, navigate to the folder and type "optipng *.png". Press enter and it's doing it's thing. Cannot be too hard to just tell it to also do that with the subfolders, huh? Smile

So if I'm understanding correctly, this OptiPNG program does something similar to Yahoo Smush.it?
http://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/

Both this and Smush.it claim that the file compression is lossless but I have my doubts, because I can see differences in some pixels if the image contains an alpha channel. But, the difference is so negligible that this seems extremely useful.

It appears the program has several "levels" of optimizaton, 2 being the default up to a maximum of 7. I only tested default 2 and I'm seeing up to 40% decreases in filesize. I'll test others and see what kind of results I get. This seems like a nice feature to add to my custom texture tool script, but maybe it might be better as its own thing since it could technically be ran on multiple packs at once.

EDIT: I added the script as an attachment StripTheSoul. You have to edit it with a text editor and input the path to the exe. You then move the script to the base directory with textures you want to run the script on, and start it up. It seems like it will take some time (probably hours) with level 7. I would like to calculate how much storage space is recovered in total. Not sure if it's possible yet, and I don't have the time at the moment, but this will at least work for now.

EDIT: I Removed the script since the feature is now part of CTT v2.0.

I can assure you that optipng doesn't change the colors in the image, if it does then thats' a bug.

You can see that diff image is completely blank, showing no differences.

@ BigHead: Heya, thanks a big bunch for this! Unfortunately, I still seem to be too stupid for this. So I edited the directory under CONFIGURATION to lead to the OptiPNG. exe.
Other than that I only have to put it into a folder with PNGs and run it, right? Because when I do that it only spits out errors: The command "optipng.exe" is either incorrectly written or couldn't be found.

It means there is a problem with the path, potentially spaces in the path? Try placing quotes around it and make sure there is no spaces after the last character.

set OptiPNGDirectory="C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Desktop\optipng-0.7.5-win32"

And yes script is to be placed in any texture pack root folder, or even the "Load" folder in dolphin that contains all texture packs (once you get it working) Tongue.

Weird, still not working, even with quotes. Also, no spaces in the folder names... have you tested it yourself?

Hm, now it works, though I don't understand why... I just put the exe on C:\ and pointed the directory there... What's wrong with this directoy: "D:\Tools\OptiPNG"

Anyway, it works, so all is good. Thanks again Smile

I noticed you discussing this so I went ahead and uploaded the pack compressed it at level 7 with optipng dvelopment (it has slightly better compression) some of the textures are also in the new format but it is nowhere near complete

Aaah, you mean you're bringing them into the new texture format? That's cool, then we won't need to use that super slow SAFE texture cache setting anymore Big Grin
