When I try to go into a cave in the first level of mario sunshine(the road to the mill). I first see a little scene where 'evil-mario' takes the pump-thingy of my back and then the game crashes.

the cave

The rest of the game works fine (except the sound).

my specs:
-intel core 2 duo e4500 OC @ 2.86ghz (stock 2.2ghz)
-2 gb kingston value ram 533 mhz cas 4
-ati radeon hd4850 1gb
-gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 motherboard
-320gb samsung spinpoint harddisk

HHhhhmmmm, I just re-played the level using revision 3068. Played just fine for me. Maybe there's a problem with your disc image of the game.

Could just be a random crash (if it only happened once)

Or savestate problem (Don't use them in dual core mode)
Specs: intel i5 3570k @ 3.4GHz;
