Super Mario Galaxy runs slower than Double Dash

I'm able to run Mario Kart Double Dash as high as 5K resolution with x16 anisotropic filtering no problem. But When I run Super Mario galaxy I can only run as low as 720p and sometimes there is still a slow down. Does this just happen to be a situation where SMG is just a more demanding game?

Here are my specs:

Alienware 13 R3
7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ
Windows 10 Home 64-bit English
16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5

I've also done everything I can to get the best out of my laptop by physically choosing Dolphin to run with my nvidia card instead of my intel, set battery to use "high performance", and within the high performance settings done everything the video in the FAQ section said. Are there things in Dophin I can tweak so I can run the game at a higher resolution with little slow down?

SMG is just a really intensive game to run because of the EFB nonsense it does with the sun effects.

However, this is weird because a 7700HQ and a GTX 1060 should not lag at all in SMG.

I can't explain why you're lagging, really.

You can make SMG faster by checking "Skip EFB Access to CPU" in Graphics > Hacks but this will break the sun effects and I think some star bit collecting thing? I don't know, I haven't played the game.

Yes, but it will also break things like pull stars, so it's not really a playable way of running the game.

1. Even though your computer can handle it at higher IR's, could you check if you still have slowdowns at 1x IR? There might still be some kind of thermal throttling going on even though you have an Alienware gaming laptop.
2. Run on AC
3. Turn off V-sync
4. Are you using Ubershaders? What GPU backend are you using?
5. Are you using any graphics packs?
6. Turn off nVidia Batteryboost in the GeForce Experience
7. Double check if you have set your Windows Power Settings to "High Performance" and your Performance preference in the nVidia Control panel to "Prefer Highest Performance" because it might be one of the two downclocking while waiting for the other to finish working on something.
8. Make sure there are no performance hogging applications running in the background (not even browsers)
