Ah you did an amazing job man. These games are literally like brand new Nintendo games in this way. Everyone did a great job here. Just revisiting SMG now and it plays and looks like a dream still. Way better than I remember it on Wii.

Hello I am pleased to announce the initial release of Super Mario Galaxy 2 HD textures.  This release consists mostly of fonts particles interface, icons and characters.  More environmental textures to come.

Hey guys,

I downloaded Ishiiruka Dolphin (Tried stable, 1117 and 1118, all the same "problem") to solve my stuttering on shader generation on the Dolphinx build I was using (From CoinOPS FW4+, I'd normally not use such a thing but I got it for nephew and didnt realise how good Wii emulation was now so starting playing SMG2 myself).

I managed to get the custom DDS textures loaded this way (Only PNG worked on the Dolphinx build) and solved the texture stutters + shaders stuttering in a oner (@ 4K + 2x SSAA is amazing) so I'm very happy but I am a bit confused at the screenshots in the OP:

On the main menu screenshot the "2010 Nintendo" copyright text seems to be a higher-res custom texture but in my game it still looks like the original asset (with obvious aliasing compared to the redone logo and orange Luma), was this texture removed from the latest pack in the OP or something like that?

Also I would like clarity on the Bighead folder, does that get loaded automatically along with the other custom textures? I assume the folders are just for neatness and the game loads the textures based on the filenames but I thought maybe I'd missed something during install and thats why the custom texture for the main menu copyright text isn't loading. I tried merging the folders but it made no difference.

The folder arrangement doesn't matter, the "Bighead" folder is just additions that I added to keep them separate from CDAMJC's textures in case he ever returned to the project and wanted to replace them with his own textures.

Not sure why the copyright isn't loading, the logo is made from a collection of font textures that are definitely included in the pack and is working on my end. They are using the BC7 format, which should be supported by your GPU if that is accurate in your profile. If not, what GPU are you using? It must support DX11 at a minimum.

I've had issues with some textures not loading in the past but could never reproduce it well enough to consider it an "issue". Can you try toggling "Load custom textures" off and on while the game is running and see if it loads?

The textures themselves can be found in the "HUD and UI" folder. I don't know exactly which ones are responsible as all of these contain the same letters used in the logo.

Edit: One last thing to add, if you are using a really old Dolphin version that could also be why they are not loading. Dolphin did not support BC7 textures until Dolphin 5.0-4894.

Edit: One last thing to add, if you are using a really old Dolphin version that could also be why they are not loading. Dolphin did not support BC7 textures until Dolphin 5.0-4894.

So, I am using a GTX 1080, thats accurate, so should be no problems with DX11 there.

I tried toggling on and off while in-game and the "2010..." text doesn't change, I also verified that those files are indeed in the folder so no problems there. The fork I am using (Ishiiruka) is based off the master from at least August so I didn't think that would be a problem but tried the master anyway just in case (r12247) but no changes, I'm about to try the resource packs with the master r12247 (Ishiiruka doesn't support resource packs yet afaik) but even if that works I will prob still stick with Ishiiruka's fork because the async shader compute is way better.

The only way I can avoid shader stuttering completely in the master is to use Synchronous (Ubershaders) but at my settings (IR 4K + 2x SSAA) that causes massive slowdown and if I use Asynchronous (Ubershaders) then I get stutters quite often. I think the 4th option (where it doesn't draw the shaders until they are ready) works without stutter but I miss out on a lot of graphics that way.

Anyway, I'll keep trying to fix it and thanks for the swift reply mate.

edit - I installed the resource pack in r12247 of the master (it turned green) and it wouldn't load the textures at all, I had precache custom textures on and it said "loaded 0mb in 0.0 seconds" in the top left corner (As opposed to the usual ~1800mb in x.x seconds). Totally confused by that, in fact the folder of custom textures in LOAD actually superseded the resource pack and I had to rename the folder temporarily.

I decided to verify the ISO to make sure it wasn't that, these are the results:

edit - I also just tried loading the custom textures on and off with the "safe>fast" slider set at all three (3) levels in case it was that. No changes.

edit 2- Does it matter which region of ISO I have? I have the EUR version, do I need the USA version?

They appear to be there, "512x32" is there but the hashes are different, as you said.

I'll try a USA ISO just in case its as simple as that. I mean I don't really care about that 2010 text ofc but I'm thinking some others aren't loading as well perhaps and I'd not really know without asking you about every one I see that looks suspect.

Does anyone have a texture mod to get PS4 button prompts?

I just wanted to say that it being the EUR version WAS the problem, either that or the dump I have is not perfect. In any case, using a USA dump totally fixed the misssing HD textures. I have both the "© 2010 Nintendo" text in HD and the "TOO BAD" text/mask is also HD now. Can't wait to see what else I've been missing.

Anyway, cheers for your replies and help I really really appreciate the work done here, its the best HD Texture Pack I've ever seen.

Btw, are you planning to continue fixing more stuff? If so I'd really like to help add the missing stuff, maybe the wood texture on Hightail Falls Galaxy. I have basic-intermediate knowledge of photoshop and illustrator if thats applicable.

Even if I'm not up to making the art I would really like to fix the things that don't really require any artistry, such as the level portraits, because when I'm running the game at 8K its pretty crazily pixelated (for obvious reason I know). Would it be as simple as me using freecam to take a picture from the same angle, but at much higher res?

p.s - I had to transfer my save from EUR region to USA region versions, I simply copied the save files from the respective folders and it seems to have worked so far. Is this going to cause problems down the road and if yes then is there anyway to mitigate it now? I found a guide that mentions hex editing and changing some IDs but its from 2016 so not sure if thats even necessary anymore.
